It is the topography of the terrain and the location itself which has led to the development of this sport in the Ordino Valley. There are rock walls, steep slopes or other natural relief to climb, which are remarkable for their verticality.
While Andorra is already a good country for this sport with different locations adapted to all levels, Ordino in particular provides you with a range of options.
Outdoor climbing wall
Located right next to the Ordino Sports Centre, just opposite the Prat de Vilella car park, this outdoor climbing wall has fifteen open lanes and a maximum height of 10 metres. It has outdoor lighting and a water fountain and is open all year round.
It is free and perfect for all types of climbers, especially those new to the sport.
Encodina climbing routes
The Encodina is a mountain section located at an altitude of 1,850 metres, with a north-east orientation that allows us to climb in the sun during the morning until approximately noon. Therefore, in hot weather, it is recommended to climb in the afternoon, while in cool weather it is best to go there in the morning. In both cases, it is preferable to climb in the spring and summer.
There are 13 climbing routes, between 8 and 20 metres, each equipped with a stainless-steel bolt. Protections have been installed close by, with beginner climbers in mind. Difficulties range from 4+ to 6c+, with grade six difficulties predominating.
The rock type is a fairly good quality calc-schist, although with a bit of lichen. It is a type of slab climbing, we could say, where two magnificent fissures allow us to work on the technique of locking fists, feet and also Bavarian.
How to get there?
The Planell d’Encodina flatland is located about 2.5 km before reaching the Ordino-Arcalís Ski Resort. You have to cross the glade to the picnic tables, then follow the signs that take you to the river, cross over the bridge and a few metres later, just before a meadow, turn right onto a well-signposted path that it will lead us to the foot of the first climbs.
