From December 6th to 8th
From December 6 to 8, Ordino, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2020, hosts its traditional Christmas Fair, turning the entire village into an authentic Tyrolean-style Christmas market.
Several unique features make this market a special place. First, its location in the village center, spread across two squares and along the main street. The main square showcases an impressive tree decorated with the finest Christmas garlands, while La Closa Square has wooden huts offering visitors various festive treats, including sausages and cheeses from the Pyrenees, cava, local wines, wafers, and nougats, along with a space to enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate, mulled wine, or a freshly made waffle. Along the main street, wooden huts also display a wide selection of artisanal and seasonal products such as candles, wool hats and scarves, small Christmas decorations, trees, and poinsettias that fill the air with a festive spirit.
The second unique feature is the program of activities for all ages that takes place alongside the market, with a schedule of daily events: the traditional lighting ceremony, Christmas carols sung by local choirs and groups, concerts at the National Auditorium, treasure hunts to find the Christmas Tió, a small theater with holographic puppets, storytelling sessions, workshops, and traveling shows. To end the festivities, on Sunday at noon, "L'Ossa d'Ordino" is performed—a humorous farce that’s part of the Pyrenean Bear Festivals, recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, performed by the Ordino Popular Culture Association.
The third feature is the Christmas tree ornaments, with a new one created every year, eagerly sought after by collectors. This year’s is dedicated to the new MACARULLA path in Ordino, called Piero and the Queen Pitavola. These are magical butterflies that we feel flutter in our stomachs during the holidays, symbolizing the excitement and joy of celebrating Christmas with cheer and magic.
The big new feature this year is the recreation of "SANTA'S HOUSE" located in the Era of Casa Rossell. Families, by reservation, can deliver their letter to Santa, who will greet them personally. Before, with a fun little treasure hunt, they must find a magic word so the Elves can open the doors to the house. All in a festive, Christmas-filled atmosphere.
In addition to the Christmas Fair, a visit to Ordino can be enhanced with guided tours of its museums, including the Casa Museo d’Areny Plandolit, which offers free admission during these days, and the Miniature Museum.
