Solar de Tristaina Viewpoint

Located in the Ordino-Arcalís Ski Resort, the Solar de Tristaina Viewpoint, first opened in the summer of 2021, has become an emblem of the area. A large structure that can be spotted from the access road to the snow field. The site, together with that of Arcalís 91, are probably some of the most photogenic spots in the region.

The viewpoint has been designed as a sundial and is located at the peak of Peyreguils, at an altitude of 2,701 metres and just a few steps from the geographical division between the neighbouring countries of Spain and France. It is one of the highest in the Ordino Biosphere Reserve and the central mast, 27 metres high and inclined at 42.55º, displays the time along its own circumference. This feature of the viewpoint is a tribute to the meaning of Arcalís as a “solar mountain” and the book of the same name by Bonaventura Adellach. In his work, the author explains the discovery he made on this mountain with regard to the solar calendar used by shepherds of old to have a notion of time.

The Solar de Tristaina Viewpoint consists of a suspended metal sphere 25 metres in diameter and 1.25 metres wide, suspended above the ground and overlooking the lakes of Tristaina and the Ordino valley. The views are truly amazing!

During summer season, to enjoy these views, take the Tristaina cable car and then the Creussans chairlift at the Ordino-Arcalís Ski Resort. A journey of just over 20 minutes that culminates in a 15-minute walk to reach Pereyguils peak. The road is fully signposted, easily accessible and open to the public during the summer months. Don't forget to be well-equipped with mountain shoes and a jacket for cooler days.

In winter, you need to hire a snowshoe excursion at the ski resort, as it is located in the middle of the resort and the climb is difficult.

This is a 2-hour guided excursion with snowshoes to the Ordino Arcalís station, where you can discover the Mirador Solar de Tristaina area, the place where the emblematic sundial stands with views and spectacular panoramas.

The excursion includes going up and down the Creussans chairlift, as well as the Tristaina cable car.
