Mountain passes
The toughness of the mountain passes, the spectacular landscapes, the richness of the cultural and natural heritage and the many options offered by the country are, without a doubt, the main attractions for cycling.
In Ordino we have one of the most renowned passes in cycling. This is why the Coma del Forat of the Ordino-Arcalís Ski Resort has been a final stage of the Tour de France for three years (1997, 2009 and 2016). It has also been one for the Spanish Vuelta and the Volta als Ports cycling races.
Cyclists are so fond of climbing this mountain pass that during the summer months, the access road to the Coma d’Arcalís is closed to traffic and is for the exclusive use of cyclists. This promotes sports tourism and at the same time avoids air pollution and preserves the natural landscape of the area.
